Rains pose threat to cotton, red gram crop in Telangana

With significant rains lashing Telangana above the past two weeks, farmers developing cotton and pink gram encounter threats from parawilt and phytophthora, respectively.

Cotton, which has been sown on above 60 lakh acres in the Condition, is vulnerable to parawilt, a physiological condition, thanks to prolonged waterlogging of the fields.

This is not prompted by any fungi or bacterial assault, explains R Jagadeeshwar, Director (Study) at the Prof Jayashankar Telangana Condition Agricultural University (PJTSAU).

Pointing out that the current temperature situations are conducive for parawilt, he advises farmers to drain the h2o out of the fields as early as achievable as prolonged waterlogging could deny the plant crucial vitamins and minerals considering that it damages the root system.

Blight assault

He suggests there is a chance of phytophthora blight assault on pink gram, which is sown on above 10 lakh acres. Farmers have gone for more acreage immediately after the Condition govt advised them to mature extra of it and not to mature maize this kharif.

The Condition grows pink gram on about 7.5 lakh acres in the rainy period.

The phytophtora blight as well is prompted by excessive h2o and absence of sunlight.

Farmers should guarantee there is no waterlogging in the fields to allow the plant defend its root system. Remaining unattended, this dilemma could cause severe hurt to the crop.
