Bake Off stays on Channel 4 in new three-year deal

Channel four will continue on to air the Fantastic British Bake Off for yet another a few years after the broadcaster signed a new deal with the show’s producers.

The agreement with Adore Productions will also extend to Channel 4’s existing specials for Bake Off: An Excess Slice, Junior Bake Off, Bake Off: The Experts, The Fantastic Movie star Bake Off for Stand Up To Most cancers and The Fantastic Pottery Throw Down.

Earlier this year Aldi extended its sponsorship of the show and its spin-offs in a deal worth a claimed £4m. 

Ian Katz, Channel 4’s chief content officer, explained: “We are thrilled that Channel four will continue on to provide up Bake Off’s unique mixture of warmth, humour and soggy bottoms for years to arrive. Bake Off is all about optimism, celebrating eccentricity and bringing the nation collectively – specifically what a publicly owned Channel four is listed here to do.”

Richard McKerrow, chief government of Adore Productions, explained the deal underlined a “mutual respect and partnership which allows us to convey Bake Off to the widest audience possible”.

Bake Off is just one of Channel 4’s most common reveals, with final year’s remaining watched by eleven.5m people today, successful an audience share of nearly 42pc.

This collection is averaging eight.7m viewers an episode, making it 2nd only to Strictly Arrive Dancing as the most common unscripted show.

The cooking programme was initially broadcast by the BBC in 2010 and continued for seven collection.

It moved to Channel four in 2017 after its maker, the Sky-owned Adore Productions, unsuccessful to concur a new deal with the BBC. The company came in for criticism for getting Bake Off to the best bidder in a deal worth a claimed £25 a year.  

The show’s best audience for the duration of its BBC era was 16m viewers in 2016.

Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, who introduced the show on the BBC, did not make the go to Channel and explained at the time: “We are not heading with the dough.”
